Reduce Carbon Footprint in Bali and Lombok

Marriott International in Indonesia Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pertagas Niaga

26 Marriott Bonvoy hotels and resorts in the archipelago have committed to CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) usage.

Marriott International has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pertagas Niaga at The Westin Nusa Dua on the 18th of April 2023. Guided by the company’s 2025 Sustainability and Social Impact Goals and in tandem with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, 25 hotels from Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of hotels and resorts in Bali have committed to clean energy source usage.

The MoU with PT. Pertagas Niaga comes as an extension of Marriott’s Serve360, as a pledge to making positive impact wherever Marriott does business. By converting LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) to CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), carbon emission is lowered by 15%, effectively reducing carbon footprint. This, in turn, contributes towards a greener, more sustainable environment for the community at large.

Cutting the amount of carbon emissions released is an effort to slow climate change and also reduce air pollutants, such as fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Reducing these pollutants improves air quality and benefits human health.

“Beyond a corporate platitude, it is impossible for us to ignore the pressing and urgent environmental needs of today. This partnership with PT. Pertagas Niaga is a step towards the right direction to conserve and preserve what we have for the next generation. We look forward to expanding this to our portfolio in key cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung in the near future,” said Ramesh Jackson, Area Vice President, Indonesia.

“To take part in any initiative regarding sustainable environment and providing greener energy has been always Pertagas Niaga’s commitment. We are honored to sign this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Marriott International in Indonesia and work with its extraordinary portfolio of hotels and resorts in Bali. This MoU signing also marked the collaboration of two different businesses contributing towards sustainability for future generations and SDG’s achievements of Indonesia,” said Aminuddin, President Director of PT. Pertagas Niaga.
